Rising Artist: Zeko Eon

One of the perks of living in the city is having access to some of the most talented young professionals in the industry. My friend Zeko Eon, a fashion photographer attending the School of Visual Arts, has grown to be one the freshest up and coming photographers around.

Q&A With Zeko Eon

(Zeko Eon and myself)

Q: How did you get involved in fashion photography?

A: Coming into Fashion Photography was a decision based off of my love and interest in both beauty and art. When enrolling in the School of Visual Arts I was still unsure of what field of photography I would excel in. It wasn't until a few weeks after NY Fashion Week where I found my surroundings and leaning more and more into the fashion industry. From that point on I gained an exceptional amount of self-efficacy from a mentor who showed me just how much it would take to be successful in an industry such as this.

Q: Who are some of your biggest inspirations and role models in the industry?

A:  I was always a fan of Steven Meisel , and of course Terry Richardson for his ability to make simplicity in a photo his craft. As far as actual role models, I really just gain support and feel a lot more motivated when the peers around me are doing as well or even better than I'm doing in my career. I find it easier to move forward when the people around me are moving in the same direction.

Q: What are some of the projects you've worked on that you are most proud of?

A: My favorite project/story I've shot hasn't yet been published but I'm currently pitching it to magazines such as SCHON!, Numero,Bullet, Sheer & Vman. Besides that I recently shot my first cover for Dstripped Magazine and was given a four page spread within the magazine. That was pretty exciting!

Q: What would you consider you're personal style to be?

A: I have no idea what my style would be categorized in. One day I'll be "bummy" and just rock a hoody, somebody's jeans I find in my house and a winter hat. And other times I'll look like I came out of some Japanese Anime lol.

Q: What are 3 pieces of clothing/ accessories you can't live without?

A: - My Gold chain my mom got me in St Thomas.
-Any of my Steve Madden Boots. (I hate sneakers they make me look short)
-The dangly earrings that girls play with whenever I'm at a party or event.

Q: Any advice for other aspiring artists?

A: All I can really say to other aspiring artists is that you really are who you hang around so if you find yourself lacking the motivation to do what it is you want, take a second and see if your peers are making an effort themselves to get to that same peak that you want for yourself. I read in this book my pops gave me that "The only limitation is that which one sets up in ones own mind"  I kind of live my life by that code.
